The Edo State governorship primary of the People’s Democratic Party is turning out to be the new battle space for the different factions in the party.
A few days after the primary that produced Osagie Ize Iyamu as the party’s candidate, Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction has set up a committee to conduct a fresh primary.
As TVC News Dooshima Abu reports, Sheriff insists he doesn’t recognise Ize Iyamu’s candidacy.
He is also not ready to give ground in the fight for the control of the party’s structure.
There has been a running battle between Sheriff and Ahmed Markafi, a situation that has led to the shutdown of the PDP secretariat and the factions now operate from the private residences of their leaders.
It has grave implications on the PDP’s readiness to take advantage of the gradual loss of favour by the ruling APC in some states in order to regain political relevance
The stand off only seems to be getting worse with the recent stand taken by Ali Modu Sheriff
Sheriff at a media parley faulted the recent governorship primaries held in Edo and set up a committee to conduct a fresh one.
The action, many say could mar the party’s outing in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State because they see Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the only candidate with enough popularity and clout to challenge the APC candidate.
