OYC issues warning to Niger Delta Avengers

TVC E. The Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) has issued a warning to Niger Delta Avengers not to carry out its threat of bombing Abia state and other parts of the country.

The militant group notorious for bombing oil and gas pipelines in the Niger Delta region issued a threat to seven governors to release pro-Biafra protesters being held in police and military custodies in their states or face the full wrath of the militants.

The group has also shown allegiance to pro-Biafra groups and this relationship seems to be confirmed in the latest statement issued by the militant group.

In a statement signed by Israel Ogbonnaya and Chetachi Ikpe who are Abia state chairman and the state secretary of the council respectively, the youths urged the Avengers to embrace dialogue.

“We also call on the Niger Delta Avengers to sheathe their sword and drop threat to bomb and attack Abia state and other Niger Delta states. “There is no IPOB/MASSOB detainee in Abia state.

Finally, we recommend dialogue as the only means to address all contentious issues at stake”.

The OYC also commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for securing N1 billion agriculture loans for the state and urged him to keep to his promise that it will be available to only genuine farmers in the state and not to internet farmers.

“We urge farmers and youths in the state to utilize the loan judiciously and massively produce food to feed the people.

We are also encouraged by the decision of the Abia state government to boost agriculture in the state through the one billion naira agricultural loan obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This will go a long way to boost agriculture in the state and serve as a youth empowerment programme and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth council worldwide will participate fully.”

Meanwhile, there are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a massive shake-up in the police force in the Niger Delta region over the activities of militants.

The president gave the new police boss, Ibrahim Idris the go-ahead to conduct a massive redeployment of officers in the Niger Delta region.
