Arsenal have triggered the release clause in Jamie Vardy’s contract at Leicester City, thought to be in the region of £20 million, according to the Guardian.
Arsène Wenger’s pursuit of Vardy represents a significant shift from Arsenal’s transfer policy in the past.
But Vardy, who signed a new deal with the Premier League champions in March, has a contract at the King Power Stadium until 2019.
Leicester remain eager to keep the 29-year-old at the club in order to retain their Championship-winning squad and could now offer Vardy improved terms in order to tie him down.
