TVC E. An All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, has said the party has no plan to zone the governorship ticket of the party to any senatorial district.
He also said that the party would not impose any governorship candidate on the party during the forthcoming primary of the party.
Oke spoke at Okitipupa, the headquarters of the Okitipupa Local Government Area, on Thursday, during a meeting with his supporters ahead of the governorship primary of the party.
He said the party’s candidate for the November governorship election would emerge through the party’s primary, stressing that the party would not also impose any of the aspirants despite the insinuations in some quarters.
The former candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2012 governorship election in the state told the APC members that he was well suited for the ticket in view of his wide experience and qualities which he said none of the other aspirants could match.
He said “Already, my ongoing tour of local government areas has been witnessing defections of people from other political parties, especially from the PDP, to the APC. If I get the APC ticket today, you can imagine what would happen. The PDP will collapse finally in the state.
“I am loved and accepted by the people across the length and breadth of the state and across party lines. My emergence will deliver the state to the APC.”
Oke noted that the high number of quality aspirants jostling for the APC governorship ticket was as a result of the people’s quest to replace the present PDP government in the state.
He added, “The choice of the right candidate, who can win the election for the party, lies with the delegates.”
During the tour, some former members of the PDP in the Okitipupa council area defected to the APC, saying they were ready to join hands with the APC towards moving the state forward.
