The Akure based Sunshine Stars handed a 2-1 shocker to Abia Warriors in Umuahiaon Sunday via a 90th minute strike by substitute Dele Olorundare.
The loss for the Abia was their first at the Umuahia Township Stadium this season.
The result meant that the Warriors and Rivers United missed the chance to overtake Rangers at the top of the league table with the Rivers side also beaten in their matchday 19 fixture.
A win for any of the teams could have seen them move to the top after Rangers had been held to a draw by Heartland in Enugu on Friday.
In Umuahia, Sunshine Stars opened scoring in the added time of the first half through Rasaq Adegbite according to website of the League Management Company. They held onto their lead until the 78th minute when substitute Obinna Nwaimo drew level for the home side. But when the game was looking to ended in a draw Olorundare then hit the winner leaving the home fans sad.
Abia coach, Kennedy Boboye, was distraught after the game.
He told the LMC, “It’s sad for me. I just pray we can get a good result elsewhere. I feel very sad that we lost to a team like this. They were not fantastic. The problem we had is that my boys didn’t play to instructions.
