TVC E. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend went out on a date just after their baby was born, but only Chrissy faced the flak.
While she’s clearly relishing life as a new mom, Chrissy Teigen has gotten some pretty harsh flak since welcoming baby daughter Luna Simone last month. Her husband, John Legend, has had enough of it. The new dad is so fed up with people criticizing his wife’s parenting skills that he has hit back by asking people to dad-shame him too.
It seems every parenting decision Chrissy makes is met with criticism. When the couple was photographed going out to dinner a week after giving birth (you know, because no parent has needed a break for a few hours), the model was bombarded with comments from people slamming her for leaving the baby. Sharing a screenshot of some of the hate-fueled comments to give an idea of the extent of the shaming,
Chrissy tweeted: “I went to dinner. People are pissed. Good morning!”
John Legend has stuck up for Chrissy Teigen about the mom-shaming she has been receiving.
Of course, John received no such comments, and he’s upset about the double parenting standards. Taking to Twitter earlier this week, he wrote to his 7.8 million followers.
“Funny there’s no dad-shaming. When both of us go out to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn’t have to take it all. We’ll split it.”
And social media was quick to praise the new dad for sticking up for his wife.
“You’re so sweet. Unfortunately the majority are women-bashing and shaming other women. Very sad,” wrote one woman.
“Thank you for addressing the lack of dad-shaming. New parents, male or female have the same responsibility. Adult time is needed,” added another.
“It is SO important to have time as a couple after babies come. No shame in that at all,” agreed one tweeter.
Chrissy Teigen has gotten some flak since becoming a mother.
Others didn’t think there should be any shaming at all.
“Don’t accept the shaming game for either of you. No one can parent your child better than you,” wrote one user.
“Shouldn’t be ANY shaming. Moms need breaks too. Makes us better moms, better wives, better souls,” added another.
Since posting, the tweet has been liked over 25,000 times and retweeted 7,800 times.
This isn’t the first time Chrissy has faced criticism over her parenting choices. She shared a picture of herself cradling her newborn, and people accused her of attention-seeking. John shared a picture of his newborn and was praised for being a good dad. It seems that moms just can’t win.

In many modern families the parenting duties are often split equally, but it’s always moms who are hauled up in front of the firing squad. Bottle feeding? Didn’t you know breast is best? Date night? You mean you’re not staying home to gaze adoringly at your baby while she sleeps. What a terrible mother!
Big props to John Legend for standing up for his lady — and even bigger props to his wife, for not letting the trolls get to her in the first place
