As the federal government continues to improve on ways to ensure that issues of estimated bills by electricity distribution companies end as quickly as possible, consumers say making prepaid meters available will be the final solution.
TVC NEWS visited some areas in Lagos to access the situation and we brought back this report.
Minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola has continued to assure Nigerians of his ministry’s determination to roll out meters in order to ensure that distribution companies charge electricity consumers only for energy consumed.
This is becoming a reality as most the companies are been complying with this directive.
At Okota – Isolo area of Lagos state, business owners say the use of the prepaid meter is laudable as compared to the old analog meters.
For the manager of the Oshodi business unit under the ikeja electricity distribution company, the roll out meters will be a continuous process.
He stated the ultimate aim is to reduce the issue of estimated billing to its barest minimum.
Meanwhile, Meter manufacturers want the federal government to put in place clear incentives for local production as opposed to importation of meters to help fast track the process.
