A 17 year old man identified as Usman Abdu from Ganja ward in Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi state has committed suicide over his failed marriage proposal to his 12 year old cousin. According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, Usman carried out the act by hanging himself on a tree at about 9am yesterday May 13th.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that victim hanged himself when his cousin, a 12 years old girl of the same address rejected his marriage proposal. Exhibit recovered include rope which the victim used in hanging himself while the corpse has been released to his relatives for burial after postmortem examinations” the police spokesperson said.
Usman was certified dead at Soro hospital in the state.
