Senate urges INEC to conduct outstanding by-elections

The Senate has expressed worry over the non-conduct of by-elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission to fill some vacant senatorial districts in Rivers, Imo, Anambra and Kogi States.

This followed a point of order raised by Senator Ben Bruce seeking to summon INEC chairman over the development at Wednesday’s plenary.

Presiding officer, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu quickly intervened to calm frayed nerves saying he was aware that INEC is shopping for funds and would soon set a new date for the election rerun in the affected states.
