The Independent National Electoral Commission, says no date has been fixed for fresh legislative elections in Rivers State.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner Aniedi Ikoiwak revealed this in an exclusive interview in Port Harcourt.
It is more than one month after the rerun election were cancelled in several areas, due to alleged electoral irregularities.
According to the INEC commissioner, several factors have continued to prevent the leadership of the electoral umpire in Abuja from rescheduling another rerun in Rivers State.
He noted that elections are capital-intensive national ventures and it is only when the required logistics are sorted out that the electorate in Rivers State would know when to return to the polls for the third time in barely one year.
Ikoiwak also said a new date for the Rivers rerun would depend on the timetable for other elections in the country this year.
Meanwhile, INEC said it is working in concert with the police to bring to book all of its personnel and ad-hoc staff who were allegedly involved in electoral fraud during last month?s rerun polls.
