Residents of Asaba, Delta State capital have called on federal government to urgently provide lasting solution to the lingering fuel scarcity to reduce the hardship Nigerians are facing.
Correspondent Carl Ofonye, who went round on Tuesday, to monitor the current fuel supply situation in the city discovered that the price of petrol on Tuesday hit an all time high in Asaba this week.
And true to his expectations, right in front of the NNPC Mega Filling station in Asaba, frustrations and despair could be seen being experienced by many motorists.
Some of them narrated how they have kept vigil at the fuel station for days now believing that it still retains its old status as a station known for always having the product.
However, another filling station called Rain Oil that is reputed for having the product always and selling at official price was seen dispensing its stock to motorists but at an unofficial price of one hundred and forty Naira per litre.
But even at that price many motorists and other fuel seekers could be seen struggling to buy. The queue for Jerri cans is better imagined than see. While the queue for vehicles is so long that you can’t stand on a position and locate where it terminates.
Some motorists that have made it to the point where fuel can be dispensed for them after several hours on queue are not happy about this.
And because of the worsened scarcity, the few other filling stations that have the product for sale are selling between one hundred and eighty and two hundred naira a litre.
This, many motorists claimed, is the highest amount they have bought fuel in a filling station since the state was created.
Not surprising, transport fairs have gone up beyond expectations.
They appealed to the APC led government to urgently address the situation before it degenerates into a bigger crisis.
