Super Eagles starlet Iwobi dashes English FA’s hopes

The English Football Association’s hopes of convincing Arsenal youngster, Alex Iwobi, to represent England, were ended on Friday, as he won his first competitive cap for Nigeria.

The 19-year-old was eligible to play for England, but decided to represent the county of his birth and was a substitute in their 1-1 draw with Egypt, in an AFCON qualifier.

Iwobi, who scored his first Arsenal goal in the 2-0 win over Everton last week, had represented England at Under 16, 17 and under 18 levels.
