The Minister of Transportation and former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused Governor Nyesom Wike of unleashing violence across the state in the course of the national and state assembly rerun elections held on Saturday.
Amaechi said this after casting his vote at his Ubima country home, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers state.
The national and state assembly elections were scheduled for the 3 senatorial districts, 12 federal constituencies and 24 state house of assembly constituencies.
Due to the violence that preceded the election, security was tight around the state. Amaechi arrived at his Ubima country home amidst tight security at about 11am.
He proceeded to his family house to consult with the elders of the community. He partook in the accreditation process and voted immediately.
When asked what was responsible for the violence Mr Amaechi laid the blame at the door of the ruling party.
A foreign observer from the British High Commission observed that the exercise started quite late and rated the turnout low.
In spite of the preparations by the election management body, INEC and security agencies, the exercise was described by observers as far from being free and fair.
