The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has tasked the nation’s citizenry not to lose hope in the country.
Asiwaju Tinubu made the call in Sokoto, where he among other eminent Nigerians gathered for the 40th anniversary of the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto.
He said that after “many years of mis-governance and its myriad consequences,” the country has a fresh opportunity to reshape its future.
The 40th anniversary of the university, acclaimed to be the most peaceful in the country, coincided with the 32nd, 33rd and 34th convocation ceremony of the school.
Royal fathers, traditional rulers, politicians among others graced the occasion.
11,513 graduates received degrees, diplomas and certificates, having been found worthy in character and
learning.
The day also witnessed the installation of the university’s third chancellor, Oba Rilwanu Babatunde Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos who was honored with a doctorate in Law.
The retired Assistant Inspector General of police, described the degree conferred on him as an honour. He also promised to mobilize support for the university.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar was conferred with a doctorate of Law.
Former defence minister, Theophilus Danjuma was honored with a Doctorate of Science.
Tinubu was similarly awarded a doctorate in Business Administration.
Tinubu on behalf of the award recipients appreciated the university for the honor.
The APC national leader also tasked Nigerians not to lose hope in the country. His call was supported by several others at the ceremony.
He also applauded the president’s anti-corruption war, and added that there shall be light at the end of the tunnel.
“We were led down a path in which bad was deemed good and good was deemed inconvenient. We were handed a way of governance in which anything goes and too much went – as if gone with the wind.
The Usman Danfodio University produced its first set of graduates in 1980.
