Mikel Obi replaces Ahmed Musa as Super Eagles captain

Coach Samson Siasia has named Chelsea’s John Mikel Obi as new Super Eagles captain, replacing Ahmed Musa.

Siasia had met with both players last night to explain to both them that he wanted his captain to be the team’s longest serving player.

At a press conference on Thursday, Musa also announced that he was handing over the captain’s armband to Obi.

“I want to announce now that from today, John Obi Mikel is our new captain…its not right to captain a senior player like Mikel,” the CSKA Moscow forward said.

The Super Eagles face the Pharaohs of Egypt in a must win AFCON qualifier on Friday.
