TVC E, NEWS – Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, will on the 5th of April, determine whether or not to stop the trial of alleged treason charges preferred against leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, Namdi Kanu.
Justice Tsoho fixed the date to rule on an appeal for stay of proceedings filed by Kanu’s counsel.
Kanu’s trial, which was meant to start this Wednesday, has been stalled following this development.
At the resumed hearing, counsel to the accused person, Chuks Muoma told the court that he has filed a motion for stay of proceedings having filed an appeal against the ruling of the court permitting secret trial of Kanu.
In his response, the Prosecutor, Mohammed Diri, admitted he had received a copy of the motion for stay of proceedings shortly before the commencement of the day’s proceedings.
He however told the court that he needs time to respond to the motion filed by the defence counsel.
Delivering a short ruling, Justice John Tsoho adjourned the case to the fifth of April, for hearing of the defendant’s motion.
