The senator representing the Ondo-North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has advised Governor Olusegun Mimiko against imposing heavy taxes on the people of Ondo State.
The senator said in a statement on Tuesday that the government should embark on expanding the tax net and diversifying the tax base of the state instead of an alleged ‘coordinated extortion of impoverished citizens by the imposition of an oppressive pressure through its burdensome tax regime’.
Boroffice said this while reacting to the disagreement between the Mimiko-led government and commercial motorcycle riders over the N20,000 per head levy imposed on riders by the government.
