TVC E, NEWS – Should the officers of the Nigeria Customs Service earn more salaries due to the huge monies they generate for the country daily?

This was the subject of a heated debate between Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun and the Comptroller General of the Customs, Hamid Ali, during the 2016 budget defence of the ministry of Finance at the National Assembly.

Ali had while defending the budget of the Customs asked for a huge raise in the remuneration of Customs officials so as to reduce corruption especially due to the huge revenue they encounter daily

The Minister of Finance had objected to the request arguing that Customs are underperforming and deserve no raise.

Chairman Senate Committee on Finance, Senator John Enoh, later resolved the issue by urging all parties to calm down as they hope the presidency will resolve the issue urgently.

Previous customs Comptroller Generals were placed under the ministers of Finance but in this present administration, they are now to report directly to the President.
