Alleged murder of husband – Magistrate remands female lawyer in prison

The female lawyer –Yewande Oyediran who allegedly murdered her husband in cold blood in ibadan is currently being detained at the state CID Iyaganu, Ibadan.

It was reported that there was commotion at the court premises on Friday the 5th, 2016 as the family members of the couple confronted one another with abusive words and songs.

Mr. Kehinde Durosaro–Tijani who is the Presiding Chief Magistrate adjourned the case to February the 16th 2016 for mention and ordered that the accused be remanded in Agodi Prison till the said date.

Inspector Amos Adewale who is the prosecuting officer told the court that “Yewande on February 2, 2016, at about 06:10am at No 30 Abidi Odan Akobo area, Ibadan in the Ibadan Magisterial District did unlawfully cause the death of one Oyelowo Oyediran, 38, by stabbing him with knife on the neck, which later resulted to his death.’’

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecuting officer further told the court that the accused had committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Volume II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria.

Another drama occurred when some Prison officials threatened to attack journalists and photographers who had positioned themselves near a Black Maria which was to convey Yewande to Agodi Prison.

She was later conveyed out of the court premises in a blue Primera Nissan car purportedly owned by a lawyer, while other accused persons were taken to Agodi Prisons in a Black Maria.

Sources say her family members are trying to use their influence to suppress the case but the late husband’s family are saying justice must be served.
