TVC E, SPORTS – Match Day 1 of the 2016 Nigeria Premier League Super 4 saw last season’s runners-up, Warri Wolves FC take pole position on the table with three points following a 1-0 win over Akwa United as Champions Enyimba were forced to a 1-1 draw by Nasarawa United.
Striker, Kelvin Itoya made the difference for Wolves in the 44th minute scoring off a goalmouth scramble as the back line of the Federation Cup winners, Akwa United failed to clear well.
Despite dominating the game, Akwa United’s blunt attack was largely responsible for their inability to score as they missed glaring chances in both halves.
The second game was more exciting and balanced. Forward, Joseph Osadiaye struck a lovely straight shot to the roof of the net to give Enyimba a first half lead over Nasarawa.
The league champions held on to the lead going into the interval but their laid back play in the second half gave their opponents the opportunity to mount the offensive and level the scores.
