TVC E, POLITICS – The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Samuel Ortom as Governor of Benue State.
The court dismissed the suit filed by the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2015 guber poll, Terhemen Tarzoor.
Mr Ortom is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A seven-man panel of judges dismissed the suit for lacking the locus standi to challenge the nomination of Ortom.
The panel said the grounds of Tarzoor’s appeal were the internal affairs of the APC.
Justice Nwali Ngwuta said Tarzoor was not a member of the APC and therefore could not contest the nomination and sponsorship of Mr. Ortom.
He said it was only a person who contested the primary election against Mr. Ortom that could challenge his nomination by the APC.
The judge also awarded N150, 000 fine against Mr. Tarzoor, as cost in favour of Governor Samuel Ortom and his party, the APC.
