TVCE (CAIRO) – At least six people, including three policemen, were killed and 13 others injured in a blast in Egypt’s Giza province near the capital Cairo on Thursday evening, state-run MENA news agency reported.
Three policemen, including an officer, a civilian and two unidentified persons were killed in the explosion that occurred in an apartment used as a hideout by a terrorist group in Giza’s Mariotya district, MENA quoted a security source as saying.
According to the agency, a security force stormed the apartment after receiving information that a group of terrorists are hiding inside.
The explosion was caused by a bomb found at the apartment that went off as policemen men were checking it out, MENA reported.
Egypt has been facing anti-government attacks, mostly in the Sinai Peninsula, which killed hundreds of police and soldiers since 2013.
Late on Wednesday, seven Egyptian policemen were killed and 10 injured when a group of militants attacked security forces in the North Sinai city of Arish.
Most of the terror attacks have been claimed by Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis militant group, which has changed its name to “Sinai State” and declared loyalty to the Islamic State.
The Egyptian military’s continuous massive operations on the peninsula have killed hundreds of militants as part of the country’s “war against terrorism.”
