Rivers State set to ‘rescue’ National Sports Festival

rivers state set As Cross River State finally braces to host the oft postponed 19th National Sports Festival this year, a new development in Rivers State is reminding the rest of Nigeria of the essence of the sports event as a youth championship and sports development project.

In this new dawn, there is a long sought-for private sector initiative in the embodiment of sports enthusiast cum philanthropist, Bro Felix Obuah, keying into the ‘NEW Vision’ of Governor Nyesom EzenwoWike through a synergy of the two major sectors of the economy to drive the process of meaningful sports development.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt last week by the Main Organising Committee of the Obuah-sponsored ‘Go Round/SWAN (Rivers State branch) Secondary Schools Athletics Championship 2016’, the event will be a “veritable ground for grooming young talents and producing generations of athletes that would represent the state and Nigeria in local and international athletics competitions.”
