TVC E, MUSIC – Though he has been gone for close to 19 years, his music still lives on.
A new Fela Kuti project is set to debut this year.
Knitting Factory Records has announced the release of some of Fela’s classics with the Koola Lobitos.
Called ‘Highlife – Jazz and Afro-Soul (1963-1969)’ The 3-CD compilation contains all the Koola Lobitos recordings with a 12-page booklet, including a full discography and essay by Fela Kuti scholar and author Michael Veal.
It was recorded in the mid-1960s at the Afro-Spot in Lagos, Nigeria and it demonstrates how Fela used a mix of jazz and high-life to create the early beginnings of what was soon to become his characteristic Afrobeat.
Knitting Factory Records has also launched Fela.net, a website that connects fans to resources and music from the late Afrobeat legend.
