TVCE (PORT HARCOURT) – The acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Ibim Semenitari has challenged Civil society groups in the Niger delta region to consistently ensure that those in government are accountable to the people.
Semenitari made this call at a one day interactive session with members of the sector in Port Harcourt. TVC news Andy Omano-Orewere reports that the acting managing director of the NDDC said her leadership will ensure that it strengthens transparency and accountability in the conduct of the affairs of the commission and support president Muhamadu Buhari administration’s war against corruption. She said it is with a view to achieving this that the current synergy is being built by the NDDC with critical voices like CSO’s. The NDDC boss is confident that the synergy will deepen the socio-economic future of the people of the Niger Delta region. Semenitari advised against allowing the nddc to fail like other predecessor interventionist agencies. Advertisement
Country director of Stakeholder Democracy Network, Inemo Samiama spoke on what the people of the Niger delta region think of the commission. Former president,Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, Ledum Mittee and Executive Director,Africa Network for Environment and Economic justice,David Ugolor were among members of CSO’s at the interactive session. Situation reports on the Niger delta region were presented by representatives of different CSO’s. There were also technical sessions. |
