TVCE [YENAGOA] – The supplementary governorship election in Southern Ijaw Local Council and in 101 polling units across six other local councils of Bayelsa State is underway and will determine who occupies the Creek Haven, the state seat of power in the next four years.
Accreditation of voters and voting hold simultaneously as this, according to INEC, will greatly reduce tension and save time required.
Today’s epic ‘battle’ is one the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its main rival, the All Progressive Congress, APC cannot toy with, notwithstanding the outcome of last December 5 original polls that was declared inconclusive.
Although the PDP is guardedly confident of emerging victorious due to its lead in six of the seven councils result so far released, the APC is banking on the Southern Ijaw council area vote to upstage the ruling party.
Except that of 1999, this is perhaps the only election in the history of the state that is being fiercely contested, especially as other elections in the state had started and ended more in the ‘board room’ than at the polling booths.
